The Brazilian forward has now notched 11 goals in every tournament for Nottingham Forest this season.

Match Summary

  • The home side were already through to the play-offs.
  • Bence Otvos own goal gives hosts a opening period lead.
  • Igor Jesus' European strike puts Forest in command.
  • Striker nets again with a sharp finish in the latter period.
  • The midfielder rounds off a excellent performance with a penalty.

Igor Jesus found the net on two occasions as Nottingham Forest concluded the league phase of the European competition with a convincing triumph against their Hungarian visitors at the City Ground.

Forest had already secured a place in the next qualifying round and entered this game with a slim possibility of making the league's elite, although they required other matches to go their way.

That did not happen but this assured display will give Forest fans belief that their team can navigate the two-legged play-off to reach the round of sixteen.

A Ferencvaros midfielder did hit the upright with a header inside the opening stages for the away team – coached by former Tottenham striker Robbie Keane – but it was dominantly the home side from then on.

They broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when a delivery from midfield was turned into his own net by the defender and added a second shortly after – Jesus squeezing a shot in at the back post for his 10th goal of the season.

Jesus' 11th arrived early in the second half when he timed a run perfectly to break clear of the backline and then place a shot beyond the goalkeeper.

That goal ended the visitors' aspirations of making a comeback and instead the hosts added a fourth when the excellent McAtee converted a spot-kick after a infringement by the unfortunate Otvos inside the box on Dan Ndoye.

Europe's secondary club competition knockout phase play-off draw is scheduled on Friday, 30 January (midday UK time), where Nottingham Forest could be drawn against either the Turkish side or Panathinaikos.

"It is not just the scoreline, there was that feel about it. I want these players to do well as a unit, the whole squad," said manager Sean Dyche.

"This is another step, but it is a positive step."

Forest Analysis: Jesus Catches Eye as New Signing Observes from Stands

Igor Jesus has been a standout performer for Nottingham Forest in European competition this term with six of his eleven strikes coming in the Europa League.

This double also means he has got three goals in his previous two outings and the threat of competition for his position in the forward line could be providing motivation.

Italian forward Lorenzo Lucca was last week brought in temporarily and he was observing this match from the directors' box.

That may well have been on Jesus' thoughts as he was outstanding against the opposition, producing two excellent goals and overall being a menace to the visitors' defence with his pace and movement.

Jesus was not alone in impressing, with James McAtee turning in his best performance in a Nottingham Forest shirt since joining from Manchester City last summer, while Dan Ndoye also impressed.

Such positive showings will give Forest some fresh hope as they turn their attention to increasing the gap from the bottom three when they host Crystal Palace on Sunday.

"All you can ask for is a response," continued Dyche.

"I've never questioned their work ethic or their loyalty or integrity. It is just about displaying your ability.

"James was excellent and Dan Ndoye was incredibly lively. Jesus got another couple and these are positive indicators."
