🔗 Share this article New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Shooting Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning. Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion. “That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.” Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where his condition is described as critical but stable. “Not certain at the moment,” the coach said. “But I will say this, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. And again, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.” New York police issued surveillance images earlier this week of a suspect in the attack on the player. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and police mentioned it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries according to reports. The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday in the area between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was taken to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The shooter fled the scene. Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a newborn. “My initial concern, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking. “There’s a process to this, which I won’t get into, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.” Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair. He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in March and was expected to be a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on 2 August and was taken away on a cart. Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while working his way back. “He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.” Boyd, from Texas, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of Texas University in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with New York in the spring.
