President Trump Invites Loved Ones of Shot National Guard Members to White House

President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the presidential home.

He added that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Devastating Incident

US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.

Vigils across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.

Presidential Offer

The president explained he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both soldiers of the state National Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump addressed the press. “And similarly with him, recover or not.”

Public Support

Attendees gathered over the weekend at the high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.

Both they had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to aid public safety in Washington DC.

Honoring Sarah Beckstrom

“She was the individual that educators hoped for. She behaved with quiet strength, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s alma mater, told the media. “She was sweet, caring and always ready to assist people.”

Memorial details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.

Judicial Steps and Policy Changes

Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.

The incident prompted the administration to halt asylum processing and temporarily stop providing entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

Status of the Airman

Andrew Wolfe, a resident of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.

He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Morrisey stated on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on the program that she planned to meet with the family.

Legacy of the Fallen Soldier

Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with excellence, per the military.

“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had bravery,” he addressed the audience at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
